Electronic Arts a semnat un contract de colaborare cu vestita revista Sports Illustrated, doua dintre cele mai apreciate modele din paginile acesteia urmând să-şi facă apariţia şi în Need for Speed: The Run. Este vorba despre Irina Shayk (a apărut pe coperta ediţiei Swimsuit Edition a Sports Illustrated în 2011) şi Chrissy Teigen, care vor întruchipa două personaje secundare în noul NFS. Cele două vor juca rolurile a două prietene bune, pasionate de cai putere, care vor concura împotriva lui Jack, eroul principal din NFS: The Run, în cursa de 3000 de mile care face subiectul jocului.
Sports Illustrated va fi prezent în noul titlu Need for Speed şi prin intermediul bannerelor şi reclamelor de tot felul, menite să promoveze cunoscuta revista. Nu în ultimul rând, Electronic Arts colaborează cu Sports Illustrated la realizarea unui documentar despre procesul de producţie a noului NFS: The Run, DVD-ul cu acest film urmând să fie oferit abonaţilor revistei.
